Leah Wilson received
her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mercer University in
1999 with a double concentration in saxophone and piano, Master of
Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Georgia
in 2002, and Specialist in Education degree in Music Education from
Auburn University in 2006. During her time at Mercer, Mrs. Wilson
performed in a number of ensembles such as, the Wind Ensemble, Jazz
Ensemble, Jazz Combo, University Choir, Flute Choir, Saxophone
Quartet, and Percussion Ensemble. Also at Mercer, Mrs. Wilson
served as co-director of the Basketball Pep Band for two years.
While at the University of Georgia, she performed with several jazz
combos, saxophone quartets, and the University of Georgia Wind
Symphony. Mrs. Wilson also participated in the Atlanta Olympic
Marching Band from 1994-1996 which allowed her not only to march in
the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, but also the 1994 Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and several other events.
Mrs. Wilson joined the faculty at Bonaire Middle School
as the assistant band director in the fall of 2002. In the fall of
2005, Mrs. Wilson took over as Director of Bands at Bonaire. During
her time at Bonaire, Mrs. Wilson's bands have consistently
earned superior and excellent ratings at Large Group Performance
Evaluations. Since taking over the BMS Jazz Band, the Jazz Band has
been invited to play at several events including Opening Ceremonies
for the Georgia National Fair, the Mistletoe Market in Perry, and
the Dogwood Festival in Perry.
